Funny Friendsgiving Toast From a Guest (About 1 Minute)
A longtime guest at a Friendsgiving potluck who offered to give the toast so the host could finally sit down, and wanted to thank the host for quietly saving dinner.
Given by Cal, a regular at a friends' potluck. 127 words. The names are made up.
The toast
Hi, everyone. I'm not the host. I volunteered for this because somebody needed to talk about the sign-up sheet.
This year there were fourteen slots on that sheet. We ended up with five desserts, four kinds of bread, one salad, and Dale, who for the third year in a row signed up for "ice." Dale, it's a beautiful bag of ice. It's doing great in the cooler.
Our host looked at that sheet on Monday, quietly went out and bought a turkey and a ham, and didn't say a word to any of us. That's the only reason there's dinner.
So raise whatever you brought, even if it's ice. To our host, who fed us anyway, and to Dale, who has never once let us run out.
Why it works: The sign-up sheet is something every guest touched, so the joke is on the whole group, and the friend who brings ice is teased for a habit he is proud of. The turn reveals what the host did without making a speech about it.
