New: the Story Interviewer
You have the story. It’s just buried.
Most people start a speech with a feeling (“he’s loyal,” “she’s always there”) and no story to show it. Answer a few questions, one at a time, the way you’d answer a friend. You get the story back in your own words.
How to find a story for a wedding speech
A good speech story is one moment, not a summary. It has a place, a detail or two, and an ending that shows who the person is through something they did. The trouble is that memory files people under adjectives. These are the questions that get under them, and the ones the interviewer works from. You can also just ask yourself, on paper:
- What's one moment with them you still think about, even a small one?
- You said they're loyal. When did you actually see that?
- Where were you standing? What time of day was it?
- What did they say, as close to the exact words as you remember?
- What did they do next?
- What's a habit everyone who knows them would recognize?
- What's a disaster they handled, well or badly?
- What changed when their partner came along?
- What's one thing you've seen their partner do for them?
When one answer has a scene in it, stay there. Ask the next question about that moment instead of moving on. Then check it against two tests: can you tell it out loud in about ninety seconds, and does it end with them looking good? For how to build the rest of the speech around it, see how to write a best man speech, or read a few of the full example speeches.
Your memory isn’t the only one. A Story Jar collects stories from their family and friends with one link to the group chat.
Questions
Is anything I type saved?
No. The conversation stays in your browser tab. Each answer is sent to the AI model to ask the next question, the same way a speech check is, and nothing is stored on our side. Close the tab and it's gone.
Does it write my speech?
No. It finds the story and hands it back in your own words, with the details worth keeping and an idea for the toast. You can carry that into the free draft builder, write it yourself, or check your finished draft for free.
What if I can't think of anything?
Press skip and it tries another angle. Most people have the story; it's buried under a summary like "he's always there for people." The questions are built to dig under that.
How long does it take?
About five minutes, up to nine questions. After three answers you can ask for your story whenever you're ready.
