My Vows

Mateo, for four years you’ve made my coffee before I wake up and left it on the second stair, because the first one creaks. You think I don’t know about the creak. I know about the creak.

I promise to notice the small things you do, and to say so out loud, more often. I’ll let you pick the music on any drive longer than an hour. I’ll learn to fold a fitted sheet, or at least stop hiding the bad ones in the closet.

I will choose you on the easy days and on the hard ones.

And every morning I can, I’ll meet you on the stairs.

Making the vow book

  1. Print at 100% scale (not “fit to page”) on letter paper, landscape. Card stock holds up best.
  2. Cut each sheet down the dashed line in the middle.
  3. Stack the pages in order with the cover on top, punch one or two holes at the top left, and tie with a ribbon.
  4. Give a second copy to your officiant, in case yours goes missing.

Still writing them? The vow writer starts from your own stories, and the vows check times them and flags the lines every couple uses. Both feed the same draft this page prints.
