For the toast
12 bottles of champagne
and 2 bottles of sparkling cider
85 glasses of champagne and 15 of cider, at 3 oz each, with 10% extra. One 750 ml bottle pours about 8 glasses that size.
55 coupes, about 9 bottles to fill
A square tower: 1 glass on top, then 4, 9, 16 and so on. The coupes can be handed out for the toast, so those guests don’t need a second glass.

The Math, If You Want It
A 750 ml bottle is about 25.4 ounces. Multiply the guests who’ll drink it by the pour, add a little for spills, and divide by the bottle. Everything else on this page is that sum with your numbers in it. Round up: the leftover bottle gets drunk, and the missing one is the one people remember.
The toast is the part the champagne is for, so it’s worth getting the speeches right too. The wedding speech order guide covers who speaks when, and the speech length calculator keeps each one short enough that the bubbles are still there when the glasses go up.
Questions
How many glasses of champagne are in a bottle?
A standard 750 ml bottle holds about 25.4 ounces. That's about six full 4-ounce flutes, eight 3-ounce toast pours, or twelve 2-ounce splashes. A magnum is two bottles in one.
How many bottles of champagne do I need for a toast for 100 guests?
With a 3-ounce toast pour for every one of 100 guests, 12 bottles. If about 15% skip it and you add 10% for spills and top-ups, it's still 12 bottles of champagne, plus 2 bottles of sparkling cider for the guests who skip it. Change the numbers above for your own wedding.
How much champagne goes in a toast glass?
Less than you'd think. A toast is usually poured at about half a flute, around 3 ounces, since a lot of guests take a sip or two and put it down. A full 4-ounce pour makes sense if champagne is also the drink with dessert.
How many glasses are in a champagne tower?
A square tower has 1 glass on top, then 4, 9, 16 and so on. Five tiers is 55 coupes. At about 4 ounces a coupe, that takes 9 standard bottles to fill, and the coupes can be handed out for the toast.
Do we have to toast with champagne?
No. Guests can raise whatever they're drinking, and plenty of couples skip the champagne pour to save money. If you do pour it, have the glasses at the tables before the first speech, so nobody is still waiting on one when the toast comes.
