A two-minute quiz

Cliché or keeper?

Every guest at a wedding can finish “for those of you who don’t know me.” Can you tell a tired line from one that lands?

Ten lines from wedding speeches. Some are clichés every guest has heard. Some are keepers from real speeches in our library. Tap which is which.

About two minutes. Nothing to sign up for.

Where the lines come from

The clichés are built around lines our cliché detector flags, from the Cliché Index of all 69. The keepers are quoted word for word from speeches in our example library, and each one links to the full speech. The names in them are made up.

Most keepers do the same job as a cliché. “I will offer one memory, and then I will give you back your dinner” is “I’ll keep this short” with a number and a joke in it. That’s the whole difference: a cliché says the thing, and a keeper shows it with something only this speaker could know.
