New: the Story Jar

The best story for your speech is one you’ve never heard.

His mom knows one. Her college roommate knows one. Send one link to everyone who knows the person you’re toasting, and their stories come to you. Then see which one should carry the speech.

The name everyone knows them by.

We send you the two links so you can’t lose them. Nothing else, no newsletter.

Free. No account. Stories are deleted 90 days after you start.

How it works

  1. 1

    Start a jar

Your name, theirs, and which speech. You get a private page and a link to share.

  2. 2

    Send the link

Paste the ready-made message into the group chat. People add a story in a minute, from any phone.

  3. 3

    Pick the story

Read them as they arrive. With two or more, ToastDoctor suggests the one to build on and how to tell it.

Why ask other people for stories?

Most speeches go wrong the same way: the speaker has a feeling about the person and no story to show it, so they reach for “he’s loyal” or “she’s my rock.” Our Cliché Indexis full of those lines. A story does the work a summary can’t, and the people around the couple have dozens of them. You only know your own.

It also changes the room. When the groom’s aunt hears a story she sent, told well, she’s part of the speech. For how to shape the one you pick, read how to write a best man speech or browse 60 full example speeches.

Questions

Who can read the stories?

Only you. People add stories through the share link, which can't show anyone else's. The stories appear on your private page, whose address only you have. Nothing is ever posted publicly.

How long do the stories stay?

90 days from when you start the jar. Then the jar and every story in it are deleted. Copy anything you want to keep before then.

Do the people I send it to need an account?

No. They open the link, type a story and their name, and press send. It works on any phone.

What does the suggestion do?

Once you have at least two stories, ToastDoctor reads them all and suggests the one to build the speech on, the details worth keeping word for word, how to tell it, and how to turn it toward the partner. It doesn't write the speech. You do, in your own words, or you can carry the story into the free draft builder.

What should I send people?

Your jar's page writes the message for you. Copy it into the group chat, a text, WhatsApp or an email. Ask a wide circle: family, old friends, coworkers. The best story is usually one you've never heard.

Is it free?

Yes. The jar, the stories and the suggestion are free. If you want a finished speech, the rewrite on the speech check is the paid part, and it's optional.
