Funny New Year's Eve Toast for Friends (About 1 Minute)
The friend who booked this year's New Year's Eve dinner, in a room that was not what anyone expected, wanted to own the mistake and toast the group before midnight.
Given by Freddie, who was in charge of booking. 129 words. The names are made up.
The toast
Hi, I'm Freddie. I was in charge of booking this year, so I'd like to start by apologizing for the mop.
When the restaurant said they had a private room, I pictured curtains. What we got is their storage room, with forty cans of tomatoes, one disco ball, and a mop that Dean has been politely trying not to lean on for three hours.
And honestly, this is my favorite New Year's we've had. Eight years of this group, four different cities, and we're still willing to spend the last night of the year next to the tomatoes, as long as we're next to each other.
Raise your glasses, carefully, because there's a shelf right behind you. To the storage room, and to next year, which Dean is booking.
Why it works: The speaker is the butt of the joke, the room is the setting everyone is sitting in, and the turn to the friends is one honest sentence. The last line hands next year's booking to a friend, which is a tease he can take.
