Funny Christmas Party Toast From the Host (Under a Minute)

A host of a yearly Christmas party for friends, with everyone standing around the kitchen and living room, wanted a quick laugh and a thank-you before the music came back up.

Given by Lorcan, hosting his sixth Christmas party. 127 words. The names are made up.

The toast

I'm turning the music down for one minute, which some of you will take as a kindness.

Our party playlist has fourteen songs on it. I made it the night before our first party, six years ago, and I have never added a song. So if you've been here about an hour, you've heard all of it once, and you're about to hear all of it again, in the same order.

The good news is that by the third time through, the whole kitchen knows when the hippopotamus song is coming, and they start singing early. That's not a playlist anymore. That's a choir.

Thank you all for coming, and for knowing the words by now. Glasses up. To all of you, and to song number one.

Why it works: The joke is on the host and a playlist every guest has now heard twice, so the newest person in the room gets it. The kitchen singing along turns the joke into a compliment to the crowd, and the last line sends everyone back to the start of the playlist.
